At 48sqm internal living space, this Art Deco courtyard apartment in the 1928-built ‘Mareeba’ flats was needing to utilise every square millimetre in this back-to-bare-bones renovation. The brief:“go bold with a sympathy to heritage and a focus on thermal comfort, bookcase, dining space and an upgrade of the courtyard garden.
Ducted air-conditioning to all spaces and underfloor bathroom heating went a long way to fixing the thermal comfort issue. Cosy in winter and refreshingly cool during the summer months complemented by a vergola over the garden courtyard to ward off the direct western sun.
