ALDERLEY

Design:  JEO Space
Build:      REDKEM Constructions

This Alderley home has been in the client’s family for generations. Gazetted in 1924, the original single gabled bungalow was completed in 1926. The grandparents purchased the home in 1954 and our client purchased it from them 1997. Transforming the space into a larger more modern family home was a long-time in the planning, 21 years to be exact.

This ‘raise and build-under’ transformed the home, expanding the liveable area by more than 50% with a new fourth bedroom, large walk-in-robe, bathroom, play room, laundry and kitchenette making up the new downstairs living space.

The simple, sleek design of the kitchen with island bench is a focal point for family convergence.

Thermal comfort was a priority in the renovation with insulation added to ceilings, ducted air-conditioning to all living spaces, and ceiling fans to all bedrooms. LED lighting is a feature throughout, along with a large rainwater tank, solar panels and a Tesla Power Wall adding to the overall efficiency of the home.

The living, dining and expanded kitchen spaces, open onto an enlarged back deck and bring a terrific feel of light and space into the main living areas.

The bedrooms were moved to previously underutilized spaces and bathrooms and built-in wardrobes added, all reappointed in a more contemporary style in its simplicity of form but still with a nod to the history of the home.

The colour palette was kept neutral with touches of black added in the form of kitchen pendants

The colour palette extends to the external façade with the walls in a soft grey that picks up the colours around it depending on the time of day, again with touches of (almost) black on guttering and trim. This home is now a standout on the lovely, leafy street upon which it resides.
