The Brief

A nod to the Hamptons with a contemporary undertone. Elegant. Functional. Timeless.

Heritage principles require nib walls remain to show the original footprint. This left awkward angles for furniture layout and flow. Also, kitchen and ensuite were of a size more suited to a small apartment, hence the decision to push out walls in these spaces

Glass tiles meeting the honed finish of marble and granite; rectified porcelain chevron floor tiles meeting hand-painted bespoke cabinetry

The challenge internally: create a sense of light, space and warmth in the living areas and introduce a sense of connection

The design approach: Restraint. Developing a textural materials palette complementary to the era - using colours, form and shape to fill the canvas. A game of contrasts with square edges meeting soft curved lines of upholstery; rich velvet meeting heavily textured linens. Most importantly, restoration rather than replacement in all areas possible.
